Mendoza
I arrived in Mendoza yesterday, shattered after a sleepless overnight bus ride but happy to be in a beautiful place surrounded by mountains. I was really sad to say goodbye to my friends Buenos Aires, and the reality of my new home for the next few months only hit me when I arrived at the base here and realised how different it is.
The base is in the country, and in terms of open outdoor space it is massive, in terms of building space very small (back to sharing a room with 8 others again... have already banged my head a few times on the bottom bunk bed!) We are a 45 minute bus ride from the city and buses come about once an hour! There are horses, pigs, and, to my great delight and joy, plenty more dogs (they keep getting bigger and better). I felt like such a city girl as I approached the pigs with great suspicion!!
When I arrived it was FREEZING, even with two jumpers and a jacket on, but today it´s really warm. I´ve arrived for the weekend so am now in the city (which is beautiful), getting my bearings, and next week begins training/orientation, so by next weekend I´ll be able to post a clear idea of what my work here for the next few months will be.
There is no internet at the base, so I will be limited to once a week posts and replies to emails! Hasta next week...
